Houston, TX (August 4, 2016) – The OU Curling Team began the collegiate season by taking 3rd overall in the tournament. The Sooners began with 7-3 (in 8 ends) and 8-3 (in 7 ends) victories over local Houston teams. The team would go on to drop their last game in pool play to a team from Austin, TX, but qualified for the A Event as one of the top 4 teams. The A Event playoffs began with a tough game against the reigning 2015 Houston Open Bonspiel champions from the DFW Curling Club. The Sooners fought hard, but fell into the third place game against a Texas team with curlers from Wisconsin. The Sooners were able to pull away in the 4th end with 4 points, which resulted in a 7-2 (in 6 ends) victory and 3rd place in the overall standings. The tournament provides a strong start to the 2016-17 Collegiate Curling Season. The team hopes to build off of the momentum heading into the local Oklahoma Curling Club league play. The Sooners will play at the Arctic Edge Ice Arena in Edmond, OK on Sundays at 4:00PM and 6:15PM from September 25th to November 20th. The 2017 Collegiate Curling National Championship will be held in Utica, NY and will feature the Top 16 collegiate curling teams from across the country.
