Austin, TX (May 29, 2016) – The University of Oklahoma curling team finished as the C Division 2nd Place Team in the Lone Star Open Bonspiel. After the initial pool play, the Sooners were the #2 seed in the C Division. They began their tournament run by picking up a win against ‘Plan 9 from Sheet E’ (Austin, TX). Then, the Sooners put away a very good University of North Texas (Dallas, TX) team to compete in the finals.
The C Division final was a rematch against ‘Broom Goes the Dynamite’ (Austin, TX). Broom Goes the Dynamite entered the finals after winning the first draw against the Sooners in pool play, while the Sooners looked to avenge the prior loss. The game was tied after the first two ends, but then the Sooners made a critical error allowing Broom Goes the Dynamite to take a large lead. The Sooners fought back with a chance to tie the game in the 8th end. Unfortunately, the last shot caught a rough patch of ice and the stone fell short of its intended target and gave Broom Goes the Dynamite the win. The Sooners were the only team from the state of Oklahoma in attendance, but it did not stop them raising the University of Oklahoma flag in the arena that the University of Texas Hockey team calls home.
